Hearst Purchases Rodale Inc.’s Global Magazine and Book Businesses
Rodale’s six wellness brands, the others of which include Organic Life, Runner’s World, and Bicycling, will find a new home under the portfolio of Hearst Magazines, the division led by president David Carey. Mr. Carey said Maria Rodale, Rodale’s chief executive, had “grown her family’s business into a peerless authority that reaches an enormous audience.” Adding Hearst was “pleased to add them and all of Rodale’s brands to our vibrant and varied global portfolio.” Along with Rodale’s magazine business, Hearst is acquiring the company’s book publishing division.

In 2013, Wintour became the artistic director for Condé Nast, giving her creative dominion over all of the media giant’s brands, which together draw a cross-platform audience of 120 million.
Vogue and Vice Media to Partner on Editorial Project
The partnership, which will run 100 days, will feature a new web site and exists across the brands’ various platforms. According to a representative, it will “showcase figures, movements and issues making an impact on society today, with each week highlighting a different theme.”
The Economist Kick-Starts Second U.S. DRTV Campaign
The ad, called “The world needs another Economist reader,” is the first to be created by the company’s documentary production unit, Economist Films, for The Economist brand. It will air for the next two months on national cable networks and in key target markets, including San Francisco and Washington, DC. The two cities were recognized as key markets based on audience and market data, saidMark Beard, senior vice president of North America at The Economist.

“The MPA’s IMAG community prides itself on sharing and learning from one another,” said Andy Clurman, President and CEO of Active Interest Media and Chair of the IMAG Financial Benchmarking Study. “As a board, we thought a benchmarking study would be the ideal way to provide member companies with key metrics to better understand how their performance compares to similar companies.” The survey was conducted in the last quarter of 2016 by Mazars USA, a global accounting firm. Only open to members of the IMAG community, participants received two sets of detailed results: one for all respondents and one broken down by revenue tier.
