With an underground movement known as Mayday taking shape somewhere offscreen, the arrival of the forbidden zine is reminiscent of real-life past and present women’s magazines that have inspired and provoked throughout history: one of the first, The Lady’s Magazine, subtly encouraged female civic participation in the late 18th century, and Ms. by Gloria Steinem was always vocally feminist—stories about welfare and sexist language filled its debut issue in 1972, including one entitled “We Have Had Abortions” that was signed by the likes of Steinem, Billie Jean King, and Susan Sontag.

Reporting for Entertainment Weekly, Clark Collis writes, "Much-loved horror magazine Fangoria has been on hiatus since last year, but there is good news for folks who enjoy reading about genre films and turning pages. On Thursday, three Fangoria veterans — writer and artist Brian Steward, designer Bill Mohalley, and former Fango editor Chris Alexander — announced that they are launching a publishing company named Fantasm Media Group. The new venture is dedicated to the creation of limited edition and officially licensed magazines focusing on some of horror, dark fantasy, rock and roll and pop culture’s most celebrated names. The first name to be further celebrated in this fashion? That would be Night of the Living Dead director George A. Romero who is the subject of the company’s launch issue, FANTASM presents George A. Romero."

The New York Times Makes a Print Play for Kids
Sunday's New York Times will include a special print section for kids: The newspaper is publishing a print-only, stand-alone kids’ section aimed at nine to 12-year-olds. The kids’ section, which will be included with the Sunday paper, is the latest special print-only section from The New York Times Magazine as part of the new initiative that, last December, was responsible for the special puzzle section that hit big with the army of crossword fanatics that makes up a not insignificant source of revenue.
