Magazines, Hughes argued before the crowd that had gathered at Center548 in Chelsea, are the perfect hybrid of a curated experience and a customizable one. A print or tablet magazine offers a sequence of articles, like chapters in a book, but its articles can stand discretely on the Internet, like songs from an album. “That combination bodes well particularly for magazines,” Hughes said, before adding, “less so for newspapers.”
