RON HOWARD, RICHARD PLEPLER, DAVID REMNICK TO JOIN THE 2017 AMERICAN MAGAZINE MEDIA CONFERENCE LINEUP

NEW YORK, NY – December 15, 2016  – Top leaders in magazine media, technology, advertising and more will convene for the American Magazine Media Conference (AMMC), hosted by MPA – The Association of Magazine Media at the Conrad New York on February 8, 2017.  This year’s conference is devoted to the theme “Magazines Work,” exploring the many ways in which magazines engage readers more deeply than any other media and the powerful influence magazine media has on consumers.

“In a media ecosystem that keeps getting more and more crowded, magazine media is a shortcut to quality for both consumers and advertisers,” said Linda Thomas Brooks, president and CEO of MPA – The Association of Magazine Media. “We designed AMMC to showcase the myriad ways that magazine media manifests that quality and how that creates the highest return on advertising spend of any media type.”

The AMMC steering committee – comprised of the senior executives of the top magazine media companies – was charged with guiding programming to best reflect the industry’s most relevant topics.

“AMMC is the one time each year where we come together as an industry to share, celebrate and reflect on the power of magazine media,” said Stephen M. Lacy, chairman of MPA’s board of directors and chairman and CEO of Meredith Corporation. “After interacting with peers, hearing from experts in related industries and learning about new businesses, AMMC attendees will leave the conference with the insight and inspiration to enhance their own brands.”

Program highlights include:

  • Award-winning filmmaker Ron Howard, in an interview with The New Yorker’s David Remnick, will discuss expert storytelling and the value of quality content.

 

  • HBO Chairman and CEO Richard Plepler will sit with Time Inc.’s Alan Murray to talk about how the world’s most successful pay TV service builds brand addiction among its over 131 million subscribers.
     
  • Rich Battista of Time Inc., David Carey of Hearst Magazines, Stephen M. Lacy of Meredith Corporation, Maria Rodale of Rodale Inc. and Robert A. Sauerberg Jr. of Condé Nast will review the topics of the day and reveal their predictions for the industry in a panel moderated by MPA’s Linda Thomas Brooks.

 

  • Glamour Editor in Chief Cynthia Leive will present Charles H. Townsend, chairman of Condé Nast, with the MPA Lifetime Achievement Award for his significant and long-standing contributions to the magazine media industry and society.

 

  • Forbes President and COO Michael Federle and Gwynnie Bee founder and CEO Christine Hunsicker will share how their companies use technology to create new businesses, transform established brands and operate at scale.

 

Other notable speakers from the industry include Andrew Clurman of Active Interest Media, Adam Moss of New York Magazine, Liz Vaccariello of Meredith Corporation and Pam Wasserstein of New York Media.

There will also be discussions on how enthusiast brands keep customers coming back for more, on the artful application of data to engage audiences in new ways of thinking, and on why editors and quality reporting work better than algorithms.
