Legal Briefing for Magazine Editors
The law is changing as fast as your job description. Are you keeping up?

The Internet of Things. Mobile apps. Sponsored content. Periscope. Drones. The Rolling Stone debacle. Bloggers-for-hire. "Twibel" and "tweet-ractions."

The walls are falling—not just between magazines and other media, but also between advertising and editorial, between content creators and content consumers, and between what's public and what's private. In an increasingly interconnected world, it's more important than ever that magazine editors know where the legal lines are drawn.

Join us for ASME's 2015 Legal Briefing for Magazine Editors to learn about the latest legal developments affecting your brand. In a fast-paced and interactive day-long program, we'll discuss what you need to know to keep your magazine—and writers, photographers, bloggers and promotion and marketing staffs—out of court and on top of the competition.

TWO SESSIONS

Business Law for Magazine Editors (Morning Session) Topics include: running compliant and effective social sweeps and promotions; protecting your brand and content online; FTC endorsement and promotions update; legal issues in responsive marketing; collecting and using reader information; designing mobile apps; and the effects of the new overtime rules on your relationship with employees.

Journalism Law for Magazine Editors (Afternoon Session) Topics include: the legal implications of native advertising; what to watch for when republishing Facebook posts and photos; guidelines for live-streaming video; navigating music rights; fact, fiction and the imperiled role of the fact-checker; the evolving definition of "fair use" in the digital context; and, of course, the latest tales from the trenches about protecting your magazine from libel and invasion of privacy claims.
